Sydney's Best Running Tracks

Pump up your heart rate on scenic power walks and jogging routes, from the sparkling coastline, to leafy parks offering routes for every ability and ambition level.

1. Barangaroo Reserve to Sydney Opera House

This is one of the best easy runs in the Sydney CBD.  Take the outer edge of Barangaroo Reserve for views of ferries buzzing in and out of the harbour plus the ultra-modern skyscrapers in the city. Pass the cafés of Walsh Bay (running up and down the jetties if you want those extra Ks) and head along Circular Quay towards our stunning Opera House. Total Run = 12.1km.

2. Sydney Opera House to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair

Ranked as the Best running route in Sydney for visitors, this gentle 3km running route showcases Sydney’s stunning landmarks. Starting at the Art Gallery of NSW, there’s a track that swings by Andrew Boy Charlton Pool, around the historic looking point Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, and around Farm Cove in the Botanic Gardens, finishes at the Sydney Opera House.

3. Maroubra Beach to Malabar Beach

Whilst The Bondi to Coogee walk is a more famous trail, if you head further you can find this 6km hidden gem. From the southern end of Maroubra Beach, there’s a range of trails taking you to the edge of the headland at Boora Point where you can stop for an oceanview selfie before cruising down to Malabar Beach.

4. Rose Bay to Watsons Bay

At the northern end of Rose Bay is the Heritage Foreshore Walk. It is a combination of stairs and uneven rock platforms, meaning it’s not the easiest terrain, but it comes with a handful of hidden beaches and coastline views of Sydney CBD. Once you’ve completed the Foreshore Walk, sweep down to Vaucluse, where you can then meander down to Watson’s Bay. The complete walk / run is just on 8km.

5. Blackwattle Bay Run

A quick, mostly flat 5km run. Whilst the ANZAC Bridge has a steady incline stretching for around a kilometre, the rest of the route is flat and well paved. This running loop has water and city skyline views the whole way round, and there are water bubblers and toilets within Glebe Foreshore Park.

6. The Iron Cove “Bay Run”

This is a fabulous 7km flat run, taking in Canada Bay and Iron Cove, with almost the entirety of the run being 20metres from the waters edge, weaving around suburbs of gorgeous inner west. There are kilometre markers along the way, so if you don’t wear a GPS, you can still get an idea of your pace.

7. Centennial Park

Visit Sydney’s oldest and largest parks to pound the pavement, open grasslands or dusty off-road tracks. For an easy loop, opt for the 3.5km circuit that runs inside the main road, Grand Drive, which is often busy with cyclists, roller skaters and cars. Run by three Victorian-era ponds, all while taking in the air away from Sydney’s big smoke. The park is open all times of day for pedestrians and from 6.15am for cars.
